Blogspot vs WordPress Which is Better?

Currently, there are 2 platforms that are most used by bloggers, namely Blogspot and WordPress.

A lot of people are confused to choose the platform to be used in blogging activities, especially for beginners like me. Because of so many platforms, of course everyone wants the best.

But in reality, each platform definitely has its disadvantages and advantages that make it difficult to determine the options. Currently, there are 2 platforms that are most used by bloggers, namely Blogspot and WordPress.

Both platforms are blogger platforms that have been around for a very long time, and create fierce competition. If likened to mobile phones, perhaps they are very similar to the endless competition between Samsung and Iphone.

Broadly speaking, the two platforms have functions and concepts that are not much different, which both provide blogging facilities to their users. However, as I said above if all platforms must have their own advantages and disadvantages.

So many people choose both platforms, in order to get the advantages and not think too much about the disadvantages. We are free to choose what platform to use, but each choice must of course be carefully considered.

This is very necessary to get the best facilities and features for your blog. Ranging from ease of use, to features that support the blog to improve its performance in search engines. Here is a comparison between Blogspot and WordPress along with its advantages and disadvantages.

Getting to Know the Types of WordPress

Before entering into the differences between Blogspot and WordPress, we will first discuss the 2 types of WordPress.

WordPress has 2 different types of platforms, namely wordpress.com (Hosted) and WordPress.org (Self Hosted). Although they broadly have the same function and appearance, there are some different features.

WordPress Hosted

WordPress hosted is a blogging platform released by wordpress.com. When using this platform, you will get a free subdomain called domain name.wordpress.com.

This platform can be used for free, but with limited functions and features. However, you can get better functionality and features by switching to personal, premium or business packages.

The advantage of using WordPress Hosted is free and can store files up to 3GB. You also do not need to do any updates, because it is handled by WordPress itself.

The disadvantages are limited features, such as not being able to add plugins and only being able to select certain templates from WordPress. You are also not permitted to place ads, other than WordAds.

In addition, WordPress will also display the link and can only be removed if you use a business plan. Your website may also be removed at any time if its use is used for illegal sites.

WordPress Self Hosted

Unlike WordPress Hosted which you can use without the hassle of installation and a lot of settings. Because with WordPress Self Hosted, you need to have a hosting service to be able to run it.

However, WordPress Self Hosted is an open source blogging platform that can be used for free. This platform is also very suitable for use on various websites, from personal websites to corporate websites.

The advantage of WordPress Self Hosted is full control that you can change, or add anything to your website. Unlike hosted WordPress whose use is restricted.

You are also allowed to place ads from anywhere, be it Google Adsense, or other ad publisher providers. In addition, you can use your own domain for free.

While the disadvantage of WordPress Self Hosted is on the security side that is not as good as WordPress Hosted. This is evidenced by the many WordPress Self Hosted sites that have been hacked, but you can still do security by adding security plugins and doing chmod.

Comparison of Blogspot with WordPress

In terms of ownership

If you use the WordPress Self Hosted service, then you will have full control over your website. However, if you use WordPress hosted then you can not be said to be the full owner of the site.

If you have a site that uses WordPress Self Hosted, then you do not have to worry if at any time your site will be deleted. Because you are the owner of the site, and do not ride like that if using WordPress Hosted.

The use of storage capacity in WordPress Self Hosted is not limited as long as you have enough hosting. However, with free WordPress Hosted, you can only store files up to 3GB and need to pay more if you want to store more files.

As with WordPress Hosted, you will not have full control over your blogspot site. As a result, your site can also be removed at any time if you use the blogspot service.

Although you can use a personal domain name, but still the site can be removed by the blogspot. However, you can still use the domain name if you transfer the domain to another service.

The blogspot service also provides more storage media, exactly 15GB. You can expand your storage simply by creating a new account, and inviting that account as an admin of your blog.

Blogspot also allows you to use other templates, at no additional cost. Advertising is also allowed if you use the blogspot service, you are free to choose to place ads and become a publisher from anywhere.

In Terms of Security

WordPress Hosted has excellent security because full control of the site is held by WordPress itself. But with WordPress Self Hosted, there is no guarantee at all about its security.

WordPress Self Hosted is also very often hacked, but that doesn't mean you can't increase the security of WordPress Self Hosted. You just use the security plugin and chmod against wp-config.php if you want to strengthen the security of your site.

Blogspot has very strong security and may not be penetrable as long as your Google account is not hacked. Just like WordPress Hosted, you don't need to do anything to secure your site from hackers.

Because of that, Blogspot is very suitable to use if you want to blog with minimal capital but with good features.

In Terms of Convenience

Many people think that WordPress is only suitable for use by professionals, and Blogspot is suitable for use by beginners. Although the assumption is true, but not entirely true!

WordPress and Blogger are both platforms that are suitable for anyone to use, but according to their needs. Because in fact, many professionals still choose to use Blogspot.

However, it is true to say that most professionals prefer WordPress as their blogging platform. Because WordPress has great plugins and features that can support for SEO optimization of their blogs.

In my personal opinion, it is better for beginners to use Blogspot as their platform of choice. Because Blogspot has a menu that is easy to understand, and operating it can be practically easy.

But even so, both platforms are equally easy to use, although WordPress itself has many menus. However, you do not need to change WordPress settings if you do not understand it, because the site will still run normally without making any settings.

Well that's a glimpse of Blogspot and Wordpress. Please customize it for yourself. Do not force the situation if it feels inappropriate. Use the platform that works for you.
